Sky stops pairing viewing cards to all Sky+HD boxes
Sky no longer will pair your existing viewing card to a replacement box. After multiple calls and spending over 2 Hrs on the phone they have confirmed that they are not able to pair Sky viewing cards anymore to Sky+HD boxes. They have also disabled Call back – New Install online facility within the Sky+ HD box. Although it will complete the call back it won’t pair the viewing card. The have also removed the Card activation link on their website.
So what does this mean? If your Sky+HD fails and you plan to buy a used or refurbished sky hd box from Ebay you will not be able to get your viewing card paired to it. The only way to continue using your Sky+HD box is to have it repaired. This means that your viewing card will not need pairing. Sky try to force you to take Sky Q or Sky Stream but this isn’t necessary if you don’t want to. Sky have signed a contract to continue broadcasting over satellite till 2029 so we envisage the faithful SKY+HD box will be around for some time to come.
